Why did we create Leash? Hear from our co-founder, Marty Sampson:
Three years ago, on a winter morning, our dog Wally desperately needed a play day at daycare. My wife (Kate) and I both needed to get to work, the daycare was 20 minutes away, and getting Wally there just wasn’t in the cards. Jokingly, Kate said “Wouldn’t it be nice if someone could pick up Wally and take him to daycare for us?”
That day the idea for Leash was born and many months later, in the midst of a pandemic, Leash (i.e. me) provided our first ride. I specifically remember quoting Ghostbusters “We got one!”
We started Leash with the goal of not only making pet ownership more convenient, but making pet ownership more accessible for those who lack transportation. We believe transportation shouldn’t be a barrier to pet ownership or the unconditional love pets bring into our homes.
By far, the best part of Leash is seeing the relationship between our customers and drivers. I always say, “Leash drivers will love your pets almost as much as you do”, and it’s true.

Meet Wally, Chief Inspiration Officer
Hi! I’m Wally, and I’m a golden doodle! Everyone tells me what a good boy I am and that I’m the inspiration behind this whole pet-only rides idea! Voila! I am the Chief Inspiration Officer!
I love my parents, and they love me. They take me for walks. They let me chase tennis balls. But the most important thing they do is they take care of me. I mean, they love me enough to make sure I make it to all my appointments on time!
Which is why they started Leash: to get me to and from my appointments. And get this – they not only started Leash, but they also use it themselves! So you know quality assurance is top-of-mind.
Here’s the deal: Leash rides are fantastic. They’re fun. They’re always on time. And the drivers are super friendly and happy to see me. And my parents are excited to see them because they know they’ve had their backgrounds checked and are totally safe and trustworthy.
The driver always puts a harness on me, walks me to the car and lets me hop in the back seat. Then I get buckled into the special seatbelt — safety first! Then the driver says, “smile!” and takes my photo so they can text it to my parents. I really like it when they play music during the ride. And when I get where I’m going, the nice driver helps me out of the seat and walks me to my appointment.
The main thing is, thanks to Leash, my parents don’t have to worry about getting me where I need to go, which makes their lives so much easier. And that means they’ve got more energy to play with ME.
